The Comparative Anatomy of Angels

by Daniel Biro

Building on the success of his first album ‘Soho Square’, Daniel Biro has produced a brand new set of compositions mainly inspired by the surreal world of French poet Jean Cocteau.

Having grown up in the south of France where Cocteau lived and worked, Biro returned there to produce this album in collaboration with the CIRM (Centre International de Recherche Musicale) in Nice.

From haunting a-capella voices to pulsating electric guitars and from string quartet textures to solo electric piano, this music has a unique place in the contemporary landscape and is a hommage to Cocteau’s magical visions of mirrors and angels.

Track Name: The Comparative Anatomy of Angels - Mikael
Mikael, the sun, the light, shining armour
Wings of green topaz
Each hair has a million faces
Each face has a million tongues
And a million eyes
Each tongue speak million languages
And from each eye fall seventy thousand tears.
Track Name: The Comparative Anatomy of Angels - Azrael
Azrael, the love of death
Veiled with a million faces
Four wings, four faces
One in front, one above, one behind, one below
The body covered with a million eyes
When one eye closes a creature dies
Track Name: The Comparative Anatomy of Angels - Gabriel
Gabriel, the Message, the Word
A necklace of rubies
A thousand six hundred wings
Each hair has the brightness of the moon and the stars
Entering the ocean of light three hundred and sixty times a day
A million drops fall from each wing to become angels.
